California gives a landlord 21 days after you move out to return the deposit or send an itemized list of deductions, and cleaning is the most common deduction. The standard is that the unit be as clean as when you moved in, normal wear excepted.
What gets checked, in practice: inside the oven, inside the fridge, inside every cabinet and drawer, the tub and shower grout, the toilet base, window tracks, the tops of door frames, light fixtures, and the floor under where the fridge and stove were. Those are the places a quick clean misses and a landlord's walkthrough finds.
The other half is proof. Take photos of every room and every open cabinet after the clean and before you hand over the keys. Pearl's Move-out Clean ends with exactly that photo set in your texts, which is what you forward to the landlord if there is a dispute.
Book it for the day after the furniture is out, not the same day. Movers leave dust.
